Los Angeles Ballet at the Bowl

Los Angeles Ballet and Los Angeles Philharmonic for their first collaboration ever! In an extraordinary performance showcasing the beauty of dance and the power of orchestral music, the LA Phil performs some of the greatest Mexican and American classical works alongside the stunning ballet.

For this concert the choreography will be by Melissa Barak, former New York City Ballet dancer and graduate of the Los Angeles Ballet school. The two pieces of choreography that the talented Los Angeles Ballet dancers will be performing are Balanchine's Who Cares?, a famous jazz ballet with music of familiar Gershwin tunes that is performed "tap dance on pointe". The other piece of choreography that will be performed is a commissioned work by Melissa Barak, entitled Kauyumari, an exploration of the music and its power to transform us.

Kauyumari is set to the powerful and evocative music of Gabriela Ortiz and will be a modern ballet performed by the Los Angeles Ballet at their inaugural performance at the Hollywood Bowl. As with their classic ballets such as their annual Nutcracker performances as well as their modern works of dance, the Los Angeles Ballet will bring great precision and beauty to their performance of these two pieces.
