The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performs How to Train Your Dragon In Concert on Sunday, August 9th, 2026 at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. Doors: 5:30pm. Concert begins at 7:30pm. Based on the best-selling book by Cressida Cowell, How to Train Your Dragon tells the story of a testosterone-fueled teenager who doesn’t want to follow the old traditions of his Viking community. He befriends a dragon and together they must save their worlds. See your favorite DreamWorks film presented in glorious HD video, live on a giant screen, while the complete musical score is played by composer David Newman and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

Hollywood Bowl Orchestra

The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is a cast of approximately 65 musicians from around the world, many of whom are LA’s leading studio musicians and classically trained musicians who have performed at the many iconic concerts associated with this ensemble. Musicians of the HBO have performed Hollywood Bowl premieres of Top Gun: Maverick In Concert, Home Alone In Concert, the entire Harry Potter film series, and many other concerts featuring famous musicians such as The Beach Boys, Sarah Bareilles, Chaka Khan and John Legend. Their latest release is the live album LIVE (2025) as well as a Brahms, 2023 release. They have also recorded a collaborative effort with blues virtuoso Joe Bonamassa entitled Joe Bonamassa: Live at the Hollywood Bowl with Orchestra in 2024. The Orchestra’s first recording, LIVE (1990), shot to No. 1 on the Billboard classical crossover chart and was 1993’s Billboard Crossover CD of the Year. 

David Newman

This concert event features the music of master film composer David Newman (Shrek, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) with over 30 years experience scoring more than 110 films. Some of his most memorable scores include the Anastasia and Ice Age animated films, as well as Galaxy Quest, Serenity, Matilda, and The War of the Roses. As Musical Supervisor for Geppetto, Newman created the event by orchestrating all of the large choral numbers to precise frame. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score for Anastasia (1998) and received an Emmy Award nomination for the score of Mysteries of the Deep.

The location where I am is The Hollywood Bowl. The address is 2301 N. Highland Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90068. The Hollywood Bowl is located in Hollywood Hills of Hollywood, California. It is one of Southern California’s most famous locations for live music performances. With a long history dating back to 1922, the Hollywood Bowl is well known among music lovers around the world. The Bowl has a seating capacity of 17,500 and has Box Seats, which are collapsible canvas-covered chairs that sit 4 or 6 to a group. The boxes are surrounded by wood partitions. There are Terrace Boxes and Garden Boxes as well as regular Bench Seats. Within the amphitheater there are many food and beverage concessions. Outside the bowl you are allowed to bring your own food and beverages (non-alcoholic) and they can be consumed while watching the concert. Liquor is also available for purchase on-site. Parking Information

There is very limited parking available on-site at the Hollywood Bowl and may be pre-reserved through ParkWhiz. On-site parking is parked in a stacked fashion in multiple lots on site. Due to limited parking availability, there are also Park & Ride shuttle locations throughout LA, Metro bus options and limited rideshare drop off locations.
